I saw your message about the bookshelf project—honestly, I think you're overthinking it. I built mine in about four hours last weekend using just a circular saw and a drill. The key is to cut all your pieces first before you start assembling. I laid everything out on the garage floor and labeled each board with masking tape. That way I wasn't stopping every ten minutes to measure again. Also, use a level on every shelf as you go, not just at the end. I learned that the hard way when I had to shim the third shelf because it was sloping. I used pine boards from the home center and stained them with a dark walnut color. It came out looking pretty solid. If you want, I can send you the cut list I used. It was a simple three-shelf design, nothing fancy, but it holds all my cookbooks and a few plants. Let me know if you need help picking out the lumber.

One thing I forgot to mention—clamps are your best friend. I picked up a set of four cheap bar clamps and they made the glue-up so much easier. You don't need the expensive ones for a basic project. Also, pre-drill your holes for the screws, especially near the ends of the boards. I split a piece of oak once and learned that lesson. Anyway, hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for checking in on the garden project. I ended up going with a mix of bee balm and black-eyed Susans along the fence line. They haven't fully bloomed yet, but the foliage is already filling in nicely. I also planted some lavender near the patio and it smells incredible in the afternoon heat. I started everything from seed in early March using those little peat pots, and I was nervous they wouldn't take, but almost all of them sprouted. I transplanted them about three weeks ago and they're adjusting well. The soil in that corner is pretty clay-heavy, so I mixed in some compost and sand to improve drainage. I think that helped a lot. I've been watering every other day since we haven't had much rain. The squirrels have been digging around the edges which is annoying, but I put down some mesh and that seems to have stopped them for now. I'm hoping to add a small birdbath in the center next month. Let me know if you want some seeds—I have extras from the packets I bought.

Also, I tried that pasta recipe you mentioned. It came out really well. I used cherry tomatoes from the farmer's market and fresh basil from my windowsill pot. The key was roasting the tomatoes first until they blistered. That brought out so much sweetness. I served it with some crusty bread and a simple side salad. Definitely making it again.
