I think the raised beds would work better along the south side of the yard where they get full sun. For tomatoes and peppers, you want at least six to eight hours of direct light each day. The soil there tested a bit acidic last season so you might want to mix in some lime before planting. I usually prep my beds about two weeks before the last expected frost date. If you want to start seeds indoors, aim for six weeks before that date. Bush beans and cucumbers do well in partial shade so the west side could work for those. Just make sure the trellis is anchored well before the vines get heavy.

I really enjoyed the book but I think the middle section dragged a bit. The way the author described the coastal setting made me feel like I was there though. I found the main character's journey from skepticism to acceptance to be well paced overall. The secondary storyline about the neighbor felt unnecessary and could have been cut without losing much. What did you think about the ending? I was surprised by the choice the protagonist made and I am still trying to decide if it was the right decision for the character arc. I would like to discuss this more at the next meeting.
