I have been working on getting my barbecue technique dialed in for the summer. The main thing I learned is that controlling the temperature zone makes a huge difference. I set up a two zone fire with the coals on one side only and that lets me sear directly then move the meat to the cooler side to finish cooking through without burning the outside. For chicken I found that brining it for a few hours beforehand keeps it moist even if I get distracted and leave it on a little longer than planned. I also started using a digital thermometer to check internal temps instead of guessing by looks alone. If you want to try something simple I would suggest starting with bone in chicken thighs because they are forgiving and stay tender. I am planning to try a new dry rub recipe next weekend that uses smoked paprika and a touch of brown sugar. Let me know if you want me to share the full ingredient list.

OMAHA STEAKS

Hand-selected cuts, prepared with care

A Selection of Gourmet Steaks, Prepared for You

Participants are invited to receive a curated sampler of hand-selected cuts, provided at no charge through this program.

Access Your Sampler

Omaha Steaks has set aside 500 gourmet boxes for this offering, each featuring a carefully chosen assortment of hand-selected cuts. Every piece is flash-frozen at peak freshness to preserve its rich flavor and tender texture. One sampler per household. This is a program offering and participants will not be billed for the sampler. The offer concludes Tomorrow.

Each box contains a thoughtful selection of cuts suitable for a range of cooking preferences. The typical value of each assortment exceeds $600, but under this program the cost is covered for eligible recipients.

Inside Your Box

• 4 Ribeyes

• 4 New York Strips

• 4 Filet Mignons

• 6 Top Sirloins

Box quantities are determined by program allocation.

Thank you for your interest in this offering.

We ended up taking the loop trail around the lake last weekend and it was really nice. The path is well maintained and mostly shaded which made for a comfortable hike even in the afternoon. There are several spots where you can stop and rest with benches overlooking the water. We packed a simple lunch and ate at the picnic area near the halfway point. The whole loop is about four miles so it took us around two hours with breaks. I would recommend wearing proper walking shoes though because there are some rocky sections. If you want to bring your dog they allow leashed pets on that trail. There is also a shorter two mile option if you take the cutoff about a mile in. We saw a family of deer near the eastern edge which was a nice surprise. The parking lot has plenty of space and there is a small visitor center with maps at the trailhead.
