Thanks for writing about the community garden project. I think the plan you outlined for the raised beds along the south fence makes a lot of sense. The soil there gets good afternoon light and should drain well after the spring rains we have been having. I can bring extra compost on Saturday if you need it. I have about three bags ready from my bin and could pick up more from the municipal yard if we need additional material.

Regarding the herb spiral you mentioned, I looked into the stone supply and they have a decent selection of fieldstone at the yard on River Road. They said we could pick out what we need on Friday afternoon if we call ahead. The prices are reasonable and they offer a discount for community projects. I think we should plan for about two hours of setup time before planting.

Let me know if you want me to coordinate with the park office about permissions for the fence work. I spoke with them last month about a similar project and they were supportive.

Thank you for taking a moment to review this offer.

I was thinking about your question regarding the best approach for organizing the neighborhood book exchange. The system we used last year worked fairly well, though I think we could streamline it a bit this time around. Instead of having everyone bring books to the community center on a single day, we could set up a small rotating shelf at the coffee shop on Main Street. They already have a corner near the window that does not get much use and the owner said she would be open to hosting it.

We would just need a couple of volunteers to check the shelf each week and rotate the selection so it does not get stale. I could handle the first month and show whoever wants to help how to sort and label things. We used colored stickers last year to indicate genres and that seemed to help people find what they were looking for quickly.

Let me know if you want to stop by the coffee shop with me this week to look at the space and talk to the owner about logistics. I think it could be a nice addition to the neighborhood and a good way for people to find new reading material without any hassle.
