I've been getting the raised beds ready for spring planting. The soil is warming up nicely and I added some compost last weekend. I'm thinking of doing tomatoes in the back bed and peppers in the front. The basil and cilantro will go along the edges. We had a good turnout at the last planning meeting. About fifteen people signed up for plots this year. That's up from last season. I still need to fix the watering system before things really take off. The drip lines need some adjustment and I want to make sure the timer is set properly. Let me know if you want to come by and see the setup. I could use a second opinion on the layout before I start transplanting everything. The weather forecast looks favorable for the next couple of weeks so I want to get as much done as possible this weekend.

We also decided to add a small herb spiral near the entrance. It should look nice and be practical for quick picking. I found some stepping stones at a local supplier that would work well for the pathways. If the timing works out, I may also put in a few marigolds around the border. They help deter some pests and add a bit of color. Let me know what you think about the overall plan.

The cooking class team event went really well. Everyone was paired up and assigned a different dish to prepare. We had pasta from scratch on one station and a seafood dish on another. The dessert station made a chocolate tart that turned out amazing. I was on the appetizer team and we did bruschetta with roasted tomatoes and fresh basil. The instructor was very patient and walked everyone through the techniques step by step. By the end of the evening, we sat down together and shared everything we made. It was a nice way to mix team building with learning something practical. Several people said they would try the recipes again at home. I think we should do something like this again next quarter.

The kitchen space was well organized and all the ingredients were prepped ahead of time. Everyone got a printed recipe card to take home. I already tried the tomato basil soup recipe over the weekend and it turned out great. The key was roasting the garlic first before adding it to the pot. Next time I might add a little more basil for extra flavor.
