Yeah I think your plan for the raised garden bed looks solid. The cedar boards you picked will hold up well against the weather. One thing I learned is to make sure the corners are reinforced with metal brackets because the soil pressure can push them apart over time. You might want to line the inside with landscape fabric too to keep the soil in place. For the soil mix I would do equal parts compost topsoil and perlite for good drainage. The herbs you mentioned should do great with that setup. Just keep the bed in a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun. Water deeply but less often so the roots grow deep. Let me know if you need help moving the soil because that part is a workout. Also consider adding a drip irrigation kit to simplify watering when you are busy.

The spacing between plants matters more than you might think. Crowding them leads to mildew and weak growth. Tomatoes need about 18 inches apart while basil can be closer at 12 inches. If you stagger the rows you get better air movement through the bed. I would put the taller plants on the north side so they do not shade the lower ones. A layer of mulch on top helps retain moisture and keeps the weeds down. You can use straw or shredded leaves for that.

For the hiking trail we did last weekend it was about 8 miles round trip with a steady incline most of the way. The views at the top were worth the climb though. We packed sandwiches and plenty of water which was smart because there was no shade on the upper part. The trail markers were easy to follow but I still used my phone GPS just in case. I would recommend starting early in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat. The wildflowers along the lower section were really nice this time of year. Next time we might try the longer loop that adds another 3 miles and goes past a small waterfall.

The elevation gain was around 1400 feet total which made it a moderate challenge for our group. A few sections were steep enough that we had to take short breaks. Trekking poles helped a lot on the descent. We saw deer tracks near the creek halfway up and a couple of hawks circling above the ridge. The trail surface was mostly packed dirt with some rocky sections near the top. Good hiking boots with ankle support made a big difference on the loose gravel. I would rate the difficulty as moderate overall and suitable for anyone with basic fitness.
