Yeah I think the raised garden bed idea is the way to go. We have that spot along the south fence that gets full sun almost all day. If we build it about 4 feet by 8 feet that should give us enough room for tomatoes peppers and some herbs. I was looking at cedar boards last week and they are reasonably priced right now. We would need some landscape fabric too to keep the weeds down. Let me know if you want to grab the materials this Saturday morning. I can bring my drill and a level. We could probably have it assembled in a few hours. The soil is another thing we need to figure out. There is a place on River Road that sells raised bed mix by the cubic yard. It is supposed to be really good quality. I can call them to get a price. Let me know what you think about the weekend plan.

Also I wanted to mention that the compost pile is ready to turn. If we add some of that to the beds it will really help the plants. I have been watching some videos on square foot gardening and it looks like a great method for maximizing space. We could try that approach this year. The layout would be simple to maintain and we could label each section. Let me know if Saturday works for you.

The pasta sauce recipe you sent me turned out really well. I made it last night and the whole family loved it. I did make a few changes though. I added a bit more garlic than what the recipe called for and I used crushed tomatoes instead of diced. The texture came out much smoother that way. I also let it simmer for about two hours instead of one and the flavors really deepened. Next time I might try adding some fresh basil at the end.

For the meatballs I used a mix of ground beef and Italian sausage. That gave them a lot more flavor. I baked them in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes before adding them to the sauce. That kept them from falling apart while they cooked. I served it over spaghetti with a side of garlic bread. It was a perfect meal for a cool evening. Let me know if you want me to send you the adjusted version of the recipe with my changes noted. I think you will like it even better with the tweaks I made.
