Yeah I have some thoughts on good trails for this weekend. The Eagle Creek loop is probably your best bet if you want something moderate with nice views. It's about 6 miles round trip with a few steady climbs but nothing too steep. The parking lot fills up fast so you'd want to arrive before 8am. There's also the Pine Ridge trail which is shorter at about 4 miles but has more shade if it gets hot. For water there's a stream about halfway through the Eagle Creek loop but you should still bring at least two bottles per person. The trailhead is about 45 minutes from downtown so factor that into your timing. I'd recommend wearing hiking shoes not just sneakers because there are some rocky sections. The weather forecast shows partly cloudy with a slight chance of afternoon showers so maybe bring a light rain jacket just in case. You could also extend the hike by taking the connector trail to the overlook which adds another mile but gives you a great view of the valley. Let me know if you want more details on any of these options.

I think starting with tomatoes and peppers is the way to go for a first garden. They are pretty forgiving and produce a lot even if you make some mistakes. You want to pick a spot that gets at least six hours of direct sun each day and has decent drainage. Raised beds work well if your soil is rocky or clay heavy. For tomatoes look for determinate varieties if you have limited space since they stay more compact. You should space them about two feet apart and put cages or stakes in at planting time not later when the roots are established. Peppers need similar conditions but they like it a bit warmer so wait until nighttime temperatures are consistently above 55 degrees. Adding some compost or aged manure before planting helps a lot with growth. Water deeply but less often to encourage deep root development. Mulching around the plants with straw or wood chips keeps the soil moist and reduces weeds. You can also plant some basil and marigolds nearby as they help deter pests naturally. One other tip is to rotate your crops each year to prevent soil depletion and disease buildup.
