Hey there, I finally got around to trying that sourdough starter recipe you sent me last month. It took a couple of tries because my kitchen is pretty cold and the fermentation was super slow at first. But once I figured out that letting it sit near the radiator overnight made all the difference everything clicked and the loaf came out with a really good crust and soft crumb. I used a mix of bread flour and whole wheat because that is all I had on hand and honestly it added a nice nutty flavor. My kids ate almost the entire thing in one sitting with just butter so I call that a win. I did not have a proofing basket so I used a regular mixing bowl with a linen towel dusted with rice flour and that worked fine. The scoring could have been deeper but that is just practice I guess. Anyway thanks for the tip. I will send you a picture of the next one. Let me know if you have tried any other bread variations because I am hooked now.

I finished reading that historical fiction novel you recommended and honestly I did not expect to like it as much as I did. The pacing was slow in the first hundred pages but once the main character left the village and the political intrigue started I could not put it down. The author does such a good job weaving in real events without making it feel like a textbook. I found myself googling several of the figures mentioned because I wanted to know what was real and what was invented. I think my favorite part was the chapter about the siege because the tension was written so vividly I could almost hear the cannons. I am planning to pick up the sequel from the library this weekend. Let me know if you have read any other books by that same author because I would love to check them out. Also I finally watched that documentary you told me about last spring. It was beautiful but also really sad. The cinematography alone made it worth it though. Anyway let me know what you are reading now.
