Yeah I totally get what you mean about the timing. I was just telling my neighbor the same thing last week. We had planned to start the garden beds in early April but with all the rain we kept pushing it back. Now I'm glad we waited actually because the soil is way easier to work with when it's not completely waterlogged. I ended up adding some compost from that pile I started last fall and it made a huge difference. The tomatoes are already looking better than last year. Let me know if you want me to swing by and help with the layout — I have a spare afternoon this weekend and I know you were debating between raised beds and direct sowing. Either way I think you'll be fine as long as the weather holds. Fingers crossed for a dry stretch. Also I tried that new variety of basil you mentioned and it's doing really well in the windowsill. The flavor is noticeably sweeter than the standard type. I'm thinking of starting a second batch in a few weeks so we can have a continuous harvest through the summer. Let me know if you want some cuttings — they root really easily in water.

I finally got around to reading that book you recommended a few months back. Started it last Wednesday and finished it yesterday — couldn't put it down honestly. The way the author weaves together the different character arcs reminded me a lot of that series we both read a couple years ago but with a much tighter pace. I kept trying to guess the twist halfway through and I was completely wrong which rarely happens. Definitely going to pick up the sequel next time I'm at the library. Also thanks for the tip about skipping ahead in the middle chapter — I think that saved me a good hour of confusion. Let me know if you've found anything else worth reading lately. I'm on a roll now and don't want to lose momentum. Also I saw the movie adaptation is in development with a really interesting director attached. Not sure how I feel about it yet because the book has such a distinctive voice but I'm cautiously optimistic. The casting rumors are intriguing at least.
