Hi—just following up on your question about the neighborhood cleanup. The plan is to meet at the community center parking lot at 8:30 Saturday morning.

We will split into teams of four and each group gets a mapped route covering about six blocks. The city is providing bags, gloves, and grabbers so volunteers don't need to bring anything except a water bottle.

Last year we finished by noon and the public works department picked up all the filled bags by 2 pm. If the weather cooperates I expect a similar timeline this year.

One change: the after-event picnic is moved to the pavilion behind the library because the usual park shelter is reserved for a wedding. We will have sandwiches, fruit, and lemonade—nothing fancy but enough for everyone who helps.

Let me know if morning or afternoon works better for your group. I am coordinating the northwest quadrant assignments and want to make sure we have enough people per route.

About the garden beds: I finally measured the backyard space and it looks like we can fit four raised beds that are 4 feet by 8 feet each.

The soil here drains pretty well so I am planning to use a mix of topsoil and compost rather than buying expensive raised-bed mix. A neighbor suggested lining the bottom with hardware cloth to keep voles out.

I am thinking tomatoes and peppers in the two sunniest beds, then basil and cucumbers in the third, and maybe carrots and lettuce in the fourth. That should rotate well for fall planting too.

If you want to borrow the trailer to pick up soil just let me know which weekend works. I have it free the first Saturday of next month and could help load if needed. Also I found a local supplier that sells bulk compost for $28 per cubic yard if you want to split an order.

One more thing—the city has a free wood chip drop program for residents and they deliver to your driveway. I am going to sign up for that in early spring.
