Yeah I think the raised beds would work better along the south side of the yard since that area gets the most sunlight throughout the day. If we put them there the tomatoes and peppers will have enough light to really take off. We should also consider adding a drip irrigation system because manually watering everything gets tedious especially during the hotter months. I have some extra landscape fabric that we can use to line the bottom of the beds to keep the weeds from coming up through the soil. As for the soil mix I usually go with a combination of topsoil compost and perlite for good drainage. The herbs can go in smaller containers on the patio since they do not need as much depth for their root systems. Basil and mint are pretty forgiving so they would be a good place to start if you are new to gardening. I can help you get everything set up over a weekend if that works for your schedule. Just let me know when you want to start preparing the beds. I think late March would be ideal for getting things planted.

We should also think about what types of trellises to use for the climbing plants. Cucumbers and pole beans will need something sturdy to grow on. A simple wooden frame with some twine works well and looks neat. I have seen some nice designs that use cattle panels bent into an arch which gives a really nice look to the garden. That might be something to consider if you want to add a bit of structure to the space.

We have about fifteen people confirmed so far for the book swap next Saturday. Everyone is supposed to bring at least two books that they have already read and are willing to pass along to someone else. I thought we could set up tables in the community room with categories like fiction non-fiction mystery and childrens books so people can browse easily. We will have some light snacks and coffee available. If someone wants to take a book they can just leave one of their own in its place. Any leftover books at the end will be donated to the local library. I still need to finalize the start time but I am thinking either ten in the morning or one in the afternoon. Let me know which works better for you. Also if you know anyone else who might be interested feel free to invite them. The more people we have the more variety we will get in the book selection. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone brings.

I also wanted to ask if you have any bookmarks or small signs we can use to label the categories. I think that would help keep things organized and make it easier for people to find what they are looking for. Let me know if you have any ideas for decorations or extra seating we should set up.
