I think starting with the raised bed along the south fence is your best option because that spot gets consistent sunlight throughout the day and the soil there has good drainage already. You will want to build the frame about 10 inches deep so the root systems have enough room to spread out. Cedar is a solid choice for the wood since it resists moisture damage naturally and will hold up for several seasons without needing treatment. For the soil blend I would recommend a mix of 50 percent garden soil 30 percent compost and 20 percent sand to keep things loose enough for vegetables. Tomatoes and peppers do really well together in the same bed and they benefit from being planted near basil which helps deter pests. You can start the seeds indoors about six weeks before the last frost date which for your area is usually around the end of April. I found a good source for bulk compost at the garden center on Oak Street and they deliver if you order more than a cubic yard. Let me know if you want me to come over and help with the framing I have a circular saw and a level we can use to get everything squared up properly.

I think meeting on the first Thursday of each month works best because it avoids most holidays and long weekends and gives people a consistent date to plan around. We could rotate the location between everyone's homes so the hosting duties are shared and each person gets to put their own spin on the gathering. For the first meeting a simple theme like snacks and drinks would keep things low pressure so nobody has to prepare a full meal. I was thinking we could start with the new book about coastal trails and lighthouses since the chapters are short and each one covers a different location which gives us plenty to talk about. I know some people prefer historical reads so we could mix genres every other month to keep everyone engaged. The host would send a reminder about a week before and post a few discussion points a couple of days ahead so people can jot down their thoughts. We should also set up a shared document or a group thread where we can share photos and notes as we read through each section. Let me know if this plan sounds good to you and if you have any other thoughts on the first selection.
