I think the best approach for the garden layout would be to start with the raised beds along the south side where they get the most sunlight.

We did something similar last year with tomatoes and peppers and they thrived in that spot. The soil drainage there is also much better than near the fence line.

You might want to consider adding a small water collection system too since the summer months can get dry. I found that using drip irrigation saved a lot of time and the plants seemed to prefer it over overhead watering.

For the pathway between beds I would recommend using wood chips instead of gravel because they break down over time and add nutrients to the soil. The whole project took us about two weekends to complete but the results were worth it.

If you decide to go with the same layout just make sure to leave enough space between the beds for a wheelbarrow to pass through easily. That was one thing we overlooked and it made maintenance a bit more difficult than it needed to be.

I appreciate you asking about the book club meeting schedule. We decided to move it to the first Tuesday of each month instead of the last Thursday because several members had conflicts with the previous timing.

The new schedule seems to work better for everyone and we have had more consistent attendance since making the change. For the next meeting we are discussing a historical novel that covers the industrial revolution period.

It is quite long but very engaging once you get into the narrative style. I can lend you my copy if you have not picked one up yet. The discussion questions will focus on the technological changes and how they affected everyday life rather than the political aspects.

I think this will lead to a more interesting conversation overall. We usually meet at the community center but sometimes rotate to someone home if they volunteer.

The refreshments are always simple. Coffee and tea with maybe some light snacks. Let me know if you want me to add you to the email list for reminders about upcoming meetings and book selections.
