Hello, I wanted to follow up on your question about the roast timing. If you preheat the oven to 325°F and place the roast on a rack in a shallow pan, it typically needs about 20 minutes per pound for medium rare. I always use a meat thermometer to be safe—pull it at 130°F and let it rest for 15 minutes. That resting step is critical; it lets the juices redistribute so every slice is tender. For a 4‑pound roast, that’s about 80 minutes of actual cooking plus the rest. Also, consider searing it on all sides first in a hot skillet with a little oil before roasting. That adds a nice crust. I learned this from a chef friend and it never fails. Let me know if you want me to send you a written version.

I saw your note about the garden planter you want to build. I think red cedar is a great choice because it resists rot naturally without any chemical treatment. For a 4x8 foot raised bed you’d need about three 8-foot 2x6 boards for the sides, plus some 2x4s for corner posts. If you cut the long sides into two 8-foot sections and the short sides into two 4-foot sections you can stack them two boards high for a 12-inch depth. That’s plenty for most vegetables. Just screw everything together with exterior-grade deck screws. I’d also suggest lining the bottom with hardware cloth to keep out voles and gophers. Let me know if you want me to sketch a quick diagram.
