I think the raised bed layout along the southern perimeter is the best option we discussed during the planning meeting. The soil tests showed excellent drainage in that area and it receives the most sunlight throughout the day which is important for most vegetables we want to grow. Cedar frames would last longer than pine and we would not need to apply any chemical treatments. For the walking paths, using wood chips from that tree that came down last month would be practical and cost effective. Regarding irrigation, drip lines would be more efficient than sprinklers and align with our water conservation goals this season. Janet volunteered to coordinate the planting schedule so we can have crops rotating through the season which is helpful because she has experience with companion planting techniques. The first work day is scheduled for next Saturday at 9am if you want to participate in the initial setup and groundwork.

I think we should also consider adding a small seating area near the herb section so people can rest while working. Tom offered to build a couple of benches from leftover materials. That would make the space more inviting for everyone who volunteers. We still need to finalize the seed ordering list so please send over your preferences by Wednesday if you haven't already done so.

I think the mystery novel by that new author would be a great choice for next month because it has elements that appeal to different readers in our group. The pacing is well done and the character development is strong throughout the story which should generate good discussion during our meeting. I checked with the library and they have enough copies available for everyone to borrow. We can meet at the usual spot on the third Thursday unless someone wants to suggest a different location. The café downtown has a quiet back room that might work better since the library meeting room can get noisy sometimes. I will send out a poll to see what works best for everyone's schedule.

Carol found a discussion guide online with thought-provoking questions that we can use to guide our conversation. Let me know if you have any other suggestions for the reading list going forward. Also, I was thinking we could rotate the discussion leader each month so everyone gets a chance to share their perspective. That might make the meetings more engaging for the whole group. Sarah mentioned she would be interested in leading the discussion for this book if no one else minds.
