Hey, I finally got around to trying that hiking trail you recommended last weekend. Honestly the views were incredible but the incline was no joke. I think I underestimated how steep the first mile would be. We started around 7am to beat the heat and it was totally worth it. The fog was just lifting off the valley when we reached the overlook. I brought way too many snacks but better safe than sorry. Next time I will definitely bring more water though. The trail markers were a bit confusing around the halfway point so we ended up taking a small detour but it worked out fine. Let me know if you want to go again next month. I think fall colors would make it even better. I also saw some trail runners going up which seemed insane but more power to them.

I also wanted to ask if you have ever been to the state park on the other side of the ridge. Someone mentioned it has a waterfall about two miles in and I am curious if that trail is easier or harder than the one we did. I might try it next weekend if the weather holds up. Let me know if you have any tips for that route. I am always looking for new places to explore especially ones that are not too crowded on weekends. The parking situation at the last trail was surprisingly manageable which was a relief.

So I finally watched that documentary you mentioned about the migration patterns of monarch butterflies. It was honestly fascinating how they track the same routes year after year across generations. The filming was beautiful especially the slow motion shots of them emerging from chrysalises. I had no idea they could travel that far. The scientists interviewed were really passionate about conservation efforts. It made me think about planting more native flowers in the backyard. I already have some milkweed but apparently there are specific varieties that work best. The whole thing was about an hour and a half so not too long. I would recommend it if you are looking for something educational but not too heavy.

Let me know if you have seen any other good nature docs lately. I am always on the lookout for something interesting to watch on weekends. Also I tried that pasta recipe you sent me last week and it turned out really well. I added a bit of lemon zest at the end which gave it a nice brightness. The whole family enjoyed it so thanks for sharing. I will definitely be making that again soon. Let me know if you have any other recipes you think I should try.
