The backyard decking project is coming along really well actually. We decided to go with composite material since it holds up better in the weather and doesn't need staining every year. The install took us about three weekends total but that included removing the old structure and leveling the ground underneath. We still need to decide on the railing style though because I was leaning toward the cable railing for a cleaner look but my partner prefers the traditional wood balusters.

We also found a good deal on a pergola kit at the local supply store so we might add that next month. It will give some shade for the seating area and we can train climbing plants up the posts. The whole thing should be ready for the summer get-togethers which is what we were aiming for from the start.

You should stop by this weekend to see it before we apply the sealant. I think you will like how open the space feels now compared to before.

For the book club selection next month I think the mystery novel we picked last time generated better discussion than the historical fiction. People seemed more engaged and the pacing kept everyone interested right through the end. For the upcoming meeting we could try something by Tana French or maybe that new Riley Sager release that just came out in paperback.

I also wanted to suggest we rotate the hosting duties since it has been at my place for the last three months. Sarah mentioned she might be willing to host in June if we give her enough notice to prepare. We should probably send out a poll this week to finalize the date because several people have conflicts coming up with the holiday weekend and summer travel plans.

I can set up a quick group message to coordinate everyone. Just let me know what works best for you and I will handle the rest from there.
