Regarding the community garden layout I think we should place the raised beds in a north-south orientation so all the plants get even sunlight throughout the day. The herb section would work well near the entrance since people like to grab fresh herbs quickly when they walk by. I found some great companion planting guides that suggest putting basil next to tomatoes and marigolds around the perimeter to deter pests naturally. For the seating area I was thinking a simple bench under the oak tree would give folks a nice spot to rest and enjoy the space. We could also add a small tool shed on the far side painted to match the fence so it blends in. The pathways should be wide enough for a wheelbarrow to pass through easily so about three feet across with some wood chips or gravel to keep things tidy. I have a list of volunteers who can help with the initial setup and we can rotate watering duties once everything is planted. Let me know if you have specific vegetable varieties in mind or if you want to keep it mostly flowers and perennials.

About the camping trip next month I think we should aim for the second weekend because the first weekend might still be too crowded with summer traffic. I reserved site 14 at Pine Grove which has a nice shaded area and is close to the water spigot. We will need to bring our own firewood since they do not allow gathering from the forest floor due to the local restrictions. I can bring the big tent and the cooking gear if you handle the food and sleeping bags. For meals I was thinking simple stuff like foil packet dinners and pancakes in the morning easy to clean up and filling after a long day of hiking. The trailhead for the overlook is about half a mile from our site so we can do that as a sunrise hike one morning. I also picked up a new camp stove that boils water in about three minutes so coffee will be ready fast. Let me know if you have any dietary preferences I should plan around or if you want to invite anyone else from the group.
