I really thought the tomatoes would take off this year with all the rain we had in May. But then that heatwave hit and the blossoms just dropped right off. My neighbor said I should try a liquid seaweed feed next time, something about stress tolerance. I might just build a couple of raised beds for next season so I can control the soil better. The pepper plants are doing fantastic though, especially the habaneros. I'm going to try fermenting some hot sauce next weekend if I get enough harvest. Fingers crossed the late summer crop works out better than the spring one did. It's always a learning experience honestly and I do enjoy the time outside anyway.

I also need to figure out a better watering schedule because the basil keeps bolting on me and the leaves get bitter if you don't catch it early. My neighbor said to just pinch the flower buds off as soon as they appear so the plant focuses on leaf growth. I tried it on a couple plants and it seems to be working so far so I guess I just have to stay on top of it.

We ended up driving about fourteen hours straight to make it to the national park before the holiday crowds. I was in charge of the music and stumbled onto an 80s synthwave channel about two hours in. It was perfect for the open highway, especially through the desert sections at sunset. My partner usually hates my music taste but even they admitted it fit the vibe. We listened to a whole album by a band called Gunship and another by FM-84. It made the miles fly by. Now I'm building a whole playlist for the drive back, adding some darker synth and maybe some classic rock staples so it stays fresh.

We also stopped at a little diner in a town I had never heard of and the pies were incredible. The server said they bake everything from scratch each morning. I had a slice of key lime and it was the perfect mix of tart and sweet. Definitely one of those hidden gems you only find when you take the scenic route instead of the interstate. Made me want to plan more road trips just for the random discoveries.
