I just got back from that hike we talked about and wow it was absolutely incredible. 3AuBstGrZ9 The trail was about eight miles round trip with some really beautiful views at the top. I packed way too much water and not enough snacks so I was starving by the time we got down. The weather could not have been more perfect though cool breeze the whole way and barely any bugs which is rare for that area. I am already thinking about going back next weekend maybe try a different loop this time. You should really come along it was so worth the early start. Let me know if you want me to send you the trail map I saved on my phone. Also I stopped at that little cafe on the way back the one with the outdoor seating and had the best sandwich I have had in months. The bread was fresh baked and the turkey was carved right there. Definitely adding that to my regular rotation. My legs are a little sore today but in that good way where you know you did something worthwhile. I am already checking the weather for next Saturday hoping for another clear day. There is a longer route I want to try that goes up to a ridge with a small lake at the top.

It was one of those days where everything just clicked you know. I left early enough to beat the crowds and had the first mile of trail all to myself. The sunlight filtering through the trees made everything look golden and the air smelled like pine and damp earth. I saw a deer about fifty feet off the trail just standing there watching me for a solid minute before bounding away. I tried to get a photo but it happened too fast.

I finally started that woodworking project I have been talking about for months and honestly I am surprised at how well it is going. I built a small bookshelf from scratch using nothing but basic hand tools and some reclaimed pine I found at a salvage shop. The measurements were tricky and I definitely made a few mistakes along the way but each one taught me something new. The finish is not perfect but that is kind of the charm of handmade furniture right. I am already planning my next project maybe a coffee table with some hidden storage. My workshop space is a mess right now with sawdust everywhere but I actually enjoy the process more than I expected. It is really meditative to work with your hands and see something take shape from raw materials. I think I found a new hobby that keeps me off my phone and away from screens for hours at a time. The best part is that I can listen to podcasts while I work so I am learning twice.

I also picked up a few new tools from a garage sale last weekend got a nice set of chisels for almost nothing. They need some sharpening but that is a fun skill to learn too. I spent yesterday afternoon watching tutorials and practicing on scrap pieces. There is something deeply satisfying about making a clean cut with a properly tuned chisel. My friend suggested I try making a cutting board next as a smaller project to practice joinery. I might give that a shot this weekend if I can find some nice hardwood offcuts locally.
