yeah I finally got around to reading that book you mentioned last month. honestly I was skeptical at first because the premise sounded a bit too familiar but the way the author builds tension in the middle chapters really drew me in. I ended up finishing it in three days which is fast for me because I usually read before bed and fall asleep after a few pages. the character development was surprisingly deep for that genre and the dialogue felt natural not forced like some other novels I have tried lately. I also liked the short chapter structure because it made it easy to pick up and put down when life got busy. I thought the ending was satisfying even though it left a couple of threads hanging which I normally hate but it worked here. there was one subplot I wish they had explored more but overall I would give it a solid four out of five. my favorite part was the description of the old house by the lake it really set the mood perfectly. I think you would enjoy it if you liked that one we read last winter the pacing reminded me of that but the tone was warmer and less melancholy. I am already looking for something similar to read next so if you have any recommendations send them my way. I might try the author earlier work since I heard it has a similar style but with a faster pace.

we finally tried that new hiking trail last weekend and it was way better than we expected. the weather was perfect not too hot and the path was well marked the whole way. we started early around seven and had the trail almost to ourselves until about ten when more people started showing up. my dog loved every second especially the stream crossing where she jumped in and splashed around like a puppy even though she is getting older now. the elevation gain was moderate enough that we broke a sweat but did not feel exhausted at the end. there was a lookout point about halfway up with a wooden bench where we stopped for snacks and just sat there for twenty minutes taking in the view. the wildflowers were still blooming in patches of purple and yellow which surprised me for this late in the season. we saw a couple of deer on the way down just standing still watching us pass about fifty yards off the trail. a friendly hiker told us about another route off the main loop that connects to a smaller ridge so we are planning to go back and try that next month. the round trip took us about four hours with breaks which felt like the perfect length for a Saturday morning. already looking forward to going back maybe with a picnic next time since there are plenty of shady spots near the trailhead. a friend mentioned that the autumn colors there are stunning so we might wait until leaf season for the next visit. the parking lot was almost full when we left just before noon so clearly this spot is popular for good reason. I would recommend sturdy shoes because a few rocky sections got a bit slippery even when dry. io8ORp6Fvu3 we packed sandwiches and fruit and ate them at the picnic area near the trailhead which had clean tables and a nice breeze. overall it was one of the best day trips we have done this year.
