I finally decided to tackle the garden bed this weekend. The soil was so compacted it was like trying to dig through concrete. I ended up renting a tiller from the local equipment lot, which made the job about ten times easier than doing it by hand. Still had to pull out a ton of rocks and roots though. eQiJluTqAcF I think next year I'm just going to go with raised beds so I don't have to fight the native clay every single spring. My neighbor suggested mixing in a few bags of composted manure to improve the texture, so I grabbed some of that too. The whole project took longer than expected, but it feels great to finally have it done. Now I just need to decide what to plant. Probably tomatoes and peppers, along with some basil if I can keep the squirrels away. They got all my strawberries last year. I am also thinking about adding a small birdbath near the fence to bring a bit more life into the yard while I work out there.

My friend's dog somehow learned how to open the back door by jumping on the handle. He just lets himself out whenever he wants now. They came home from work one day and found him just sitting in the backyard like he owned the place. They had to install a hook-and-eye latch way up high so he couldn't reach it anymore. It's funny how clever animals can be when they set their minds to something. The dog is a golden retriever, so he's usually pretty goofy, but apparently, he's a genius when it comes to door handles. Now they have to check the door every night before bed to make sure he isn't sneaking out for midnight patrols. I told them they should just get a smart lock, but they think that would be overkill for a dog. Honestly, I think the dog would figure out the smart lock too if he watched them do it a couple of times. He's got that look in his eye, like he is constantly plotting his next escape. They are thinking about getting him one of those puzzle toys to keep his brain occupied so he forgets about the door for a while.
