Hey, I finally got around to trying that sourdough recipe you sent me a few weeks ago. It turned out a lot better than I expected, though the kitchen is still covered in flour. I think I over-proofed the second rise, but the crust had a really nice crackle to it. I used a mix of bread flour and whole wheat, which gave it a slightly nuttier flavor. The kids didn't really care for the tang, but my partner loved it with some salted butter. I'm planning to start a starter from scratch this weekend, maybe name it something fun. Let me know if you have any tips for keeping it alive while I'm at work during the day. I was thinking of just leaving it in the fridge and feeding it every other day to slow it down. Also, do you bake it straight from the fridge or let it come to room temperature first? I let mine sit out for about an hour before shaping and baking. Anyway, thanks again for the link. It's been a really nice way to unwind in the evenings after everything settles down. Highly recommend.

We finally adopted a puppy from the local shelter last weekend and life has been a whirlwind of chew toys and short naps. He's a mix, maybe some lab and something smaller, with the floppiest ears you've ever seen. House training is going slower than I'd like, but he's learning. He already knows how to sit and is really good at fetching, though bringing the ball back is still a work in progress. We've been taking him to the park near the river in the mornings and he loves chasing the geese, not that he ever catches them. I forgot how much energy a young dog has, it's like having a toddler again. My older dog is tolerating him, mostly just giving him a look when he gets too bouncy. I think they'll be best friends once they figure out the pecking order. We're working on crate training at night, which has been hit or miss. Last night he slept through the whole night without a peep, so I think we're making progress for sure.
