So about the garden layout question you had — I think raised beds would work best for the slope issue you mentioned. We used cedar for ours since it holds up well against moisture and doesn't need chemical treatments. The spacing between beds should be at least 3 feet if you want to get a wheelbarrow through. For the soil mix, we did 40 percent compost, 40 percent topsoil, and 20 percent perlite which gave us really good drainage. The tomato varieties you asked about — we had great luck with Roma and Cherokee Purple last season. Just make sure you stake them early because they get heavy once the fruit sets. Also consider adding marigolds around the perimeter if you want to keep pests down naturally. The drip irrigation system we put in was actually pretty simple to install and saved us a ton of time watering. Let me know if you need help figuring out the timer settings for the different zones.

We also added a small composting bin near the shed and that has worked out really well for kitchen scraps. The local extension office offers free soil testing which I would recommend before you amend anything. They can tell you exactly what your soil is lacking. I have the contact info if you want it.

Regarding your question about the book club choice for next month — I think we should go with something lighter after that heavy historical novel we just finished. I was looking at a few options and there is a really interesting mystery series that starts with a story set in a small coastal town. The pacing is quick and the chapters are short so people can keep up even with busy schedules. I checked with the library and they have enough copies available which was the main concern last time. We could also do a themed snack night to go along with the coastal setting maybe some seafood dips or something simple. The discussion questions I have from the reading guide are pretty good they focus on character development rather than just plot points.

Also I wanted to ask about the meeting schedule — do you prefer the second Tuesday or the third Wednesday of the month? I know some people had conflicts with the last time we switched. And should we rotate hosts or keep it at the community room like before? The room is available most evenings just need to book it a week ahead. Let me know what you think about this direction I can send the first chapter to everyone by Friday if we decide to go ahead with it.
