Regarding your question about the block party setup, I think we should keep it simple this year. Start with the grill station near the garage so there is easy access to the outdoor outlet. We can set up the tables in a U-shape around the driveway area, which gives people room to mingle without feeling crowded. For the music, I will bring that portable speaker I got last month. It has good battery life so we will not need to worry about cords. Let me know if you want me to coordinate with the neighbors on the food list. I already talked to Maria and she is bringing her famous potato salad. Tom said he would handle burgers and dogs. We should probably have a couple of vegetarian options too. I was thinking maybe some portobello burgers or veggie skewers. For activities, we could set up cornhole in the side yard and maybe a card table for games later in the evening. Let me know what you think about the timing. I was thinking a two o'clock start so we have enough daylight.

Also, do not forget to send out the reminder email to everyone on Tuesday so we get a headcount. I can help with that if you need. Just let me know what works best for your schedule.

Thanks for asking about my experience with the woodworking class. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot more than I expected. The instructor started with the basics of measuring and marking, which sounds simple but there are actually quite a few techniques to do it accurately. We spent time on understanding different types of wood and which projects they work best for. The hands-on part was building a small shelf with dovetail joints, which was challenging but rewarding. I messed up the first one pretty badly but the second attempt came out much better. The class met twice a week for three weeks, so it was a decent commitment but totally worth it. I would recommend starting with a beginner class if you are thinking about it. The tools can be intimidating at first but the instructor was really patient and explained everything step by step.

One thing I would suggest is to practice measuring multiple times before making cuts. That was the biggest lesson I took away. Let me know if you want more details about the class schedule or what supplies you would need to bring. I can also send you a photo of the shelf I made if that helps you decide.
