I looked into the best time to transplant the tomatoes based on your suggestion. It seems waiting until after the last frost date is safest. We prepped the soil with compost and a balanced fertilizer. The raised beds are set up and we installed drip irrigation this time. Hopefully it will save us time watering every day. The layout you described for the garden paths made a lot of sense. Using wood chips for the pathways should help with weed control. I also ordered some beneficial nematodes to deal with the grubs naturally. We are trying a few new pepper varietals this year. The chocolate bell pepper and the sugar rush peach stripe sounds interesting. I will update you on their progress. Let me know if you have a recommended spacing for the basil between the tomato plants.

We also decided to start a small herb garden near the kitchen door. Rosemary, thyme, and oregano seem like good choices for our climate. The soil in that area drains better so it should work out well. I found a good source for organic mulch locally. They deliver in bulk which is much cheaper than bagged options. Let me know if you need any extra soil amendments for your project.

The home server setup is almost complete. Your advice on using a lightweight OS made a huge difference in performance. I installed Ubuntu Server and configured it with ZFS for the storage pool. The rsync script you shared for nightly backups to the external drive works perfectly. I had a small issue with the permissions on the shared folders but resolved it by adjusting the user groups. Next, I plan to set up a Plex server and maybe a few Docker containers for home automation. The power consumption is pretty low, around 30 watts idle. I used a mix of old and new hard drives for the array. Monitoring the health of the drives is important. I installed a tool that tracks the SMART data and sends me an email if anything looks off.

I also started experimenting with network segmentation to keep the IoT devices on a separate VLAN. Your tutorial on configuring the managed switch was very helpful. The only tricky part was getting the firewall rules right so the printer is still accessible from the main network. I think I have it working now. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a good dashboard tool to monitor everything in one place.
