I think the trailhead is about 45 minutes from downtown so we should leave by 6am if we want to be on the trail by 7. The loop is about 8 miles with some elevation gain around 1200 feet so it should take us about 4 to 5 hours depending on how many breaks we take. I checked the weather and it looks clear in the morning but there is a chance of showers after 2pm so we should try to be back by then. We will need to bring at least 2 liters of water each and some snacks. There is a stream about halfway but I would not count on it for filtering enough for everyone. The trail is well marked but I will download the map anyway just in case. Parking is free at the trailhead but it does fill up on weekends so getting there early is key. We can meet at the coffee shop downtown at 530 and carpool from there. Let me know if that timeline works for you or if you need to adjust anything. I am happy to shift the time if an earlier start works better for your group.

The tomatoes are doing really well this year especially the cherry variety which are already ripening faster than I expected. I think the key was starting them indoors earlier and using the grow lights for the first few weeks. The peppers are a bit slower but they are starting to flower now so I am hopeful for a good batch later in the season. I ended up putting in two new raised beds along the south side of the yard and that has made a big difference in terms of sun exposure. The soil mix I used was a combination of compost and topsoil with some perlite mixed in for drainage. I am also trying cucumbers for the first time and they are climbing up the trellis nicely. The biggest challenge has been keeping the squirrels away from the seedlings but a simple mesh cover solved that. I am thinking of adding a drip irrigation system next year to make watering more consistent. The basil and cilantro are also thriving and I have been harvesting them weekly for salads and cooking.
