I finally got around to organizing my garage last weekend and honestly it was one of those tasks I had been putting off for months but once I started it really wasn't that bad. I found some old boxes of books I forgot I had and ended up spending most of Saturday afternoon just flipping through them and reminiscing. My neighbor came over to borrow a ladder and saw what I was doing and ended up staying to help for a bit which was really nice. We got most of it done in about four hours and now I can actually park my car inside again. The best part was finding a box of old photos from college that I thought I had lost years ago. I spent Sunday scanning them into my computer so I would have digital copies. It felt good to finally tackle that project and I am already thinking about what to organize next. Probably the closet in the spare bedroom but that might be a bigger project than I want to take on right now.

My sister called while I was in the middle of sorting screws and was laughing at me for being so excited about hardware organization. She said it was a sure sign of getting older but I told her it was just satisfying to have things in their proper place. She ended up coming over later with pizza and we sat on the driveway watching the sunset. It was a really nice end to a productive day.

I started listening to this new podcast about urban gardening and it is surprisingly engaging. The host talks about growing vegetables in small spaces and has really practical tips for people who do not have a lot of outdoor room. I live in an apartment with just a small balcony so I never thought I could grow much but apparently there are lots of things you can grow in containers. She did an episode on growing tomatoes in hanging baskets and another on herbs that do well on windowsills. I tried planting some basil and mint this week following her advice and they are already starting to sprout which is exciting. The episodes are only about twenty minutes long so they are easy to fit into a lunch break. I have been listening while I walk the dog in the morning and it has become a nice little routine. The host has a very calm voice and the production quality is really good. I think anyone who enjoys cooking would find it useful because fresh herbs really do make a difference.

My friend recommended it to me last month and I was skeptical at first because I am not usually into gardening content but it is more about problem solving and making the most of what you have. She also mentioned an episode about composting which I thought would be boring but it was actually fascinating. I might try a small compost bin on my balcony just for vegetable scraps. The podcast is called something simple like City Grower but I will have to double check the exact name.
