So I was telling my friend about that documentary I finally watched last night and honestly I wasn't sure what to expect going in. She had been recommending it for months and kept saying I would really enjoy the pacing and the way the director layered the interviews. I have to admit she was right about most of it. The first half moved a little slowly for my taste but once they got into the second act everything clicked into place. There was this one segment about the restoration process that I found surprisingly moving. I had no idea how much work goes into preserving old film prints and the people they interviewed were so passionate about it. We ended up talking for almost an hour after the credits rolled just unpacking different scenes and what they meant. It made me realize I should probably take her suggestions more seriously going forward. She has a knack for picking stories that quietly sneak up on you and then stick with you days later. I already told her I want to watch a few more from the same director. We are planning a double feature next weekend and I am actually looking forward to it more than I expected.

She also mentioned a book series she started reading recently and said the world-building is unlike anything she has encountered in years. I might give that a try once I finish the current novel on my nightstand. It is always nice to have something new to dive into.

I was just catching up with my cousin about the road trip we took last summer and we both agreed it was exactly what we needed at the time. We had been planning it for months and almost canceled twice because of scheduling conflicts but I am really glad we pushed through. The best part was definitely the detour we took on the second day when we stumbled onto this tiny local festival in a town neither of us had heard of before. There was live music and a bunch of food stalls selling things we had never tried. We ended up staying for hours just wandering around and talking to locals who were incredibly friendly. My cousin keeps saying we should make it an annual thing and I think I might actually take her up on that. There is something about getting out of your normal routine and just driving somewhere without a rigid plan that resets your whole perspective. We have already started loosely talking about where we might go next time maybe somewhere with mountains or a coast we have not explored yet. It feels good to have something to look forward to that is not tied to work or obligations. Just a genuine break with good company and open road ahead.

I also finally organized the photos from that trip into an album and sent them to her last night. She laughed at how many pictures I took of random signs and local cats.
