I tried that new Italian place you mentioned last week. Honestly the pasta was pretty good but the tiramisu was the real standout. I’ve been thinking about making a similar version at home maybe with a little less sugar. Let me know if you want me to send you the recipe I’m testing. I tweaked the cream layers a bit and used mascarpone from that deli on Elm Street. It came out lighter than I expected. My family liked it even though my sister said it needed more cocoa on top. I might try adding a pinch of salt next time to balance the sweetness. The whole process took about an hour not counting chill time. I’ll probably make it again for the weekend gathering. Let me know what you think if you try it. I’d really appreciate honest feedback because I want to get the proportions just right. Anyway hope you’re doing well and staying busy with the usual stuff. Talk soon.

vJSSed4ubtL I also picked up a new book about native plants and landscaping with perennials. It’s a pretty light read but has some good ideas for small yards. I’m thinking of trying a few of the suggestions this spring if the weather cooperates. Nothing too ambitious just some border flowers maybe a couple of shrubs. The chapter on soil preparation was actually really helpful. I didn’t realize how much difference a simple soil test can make. Anyway let me know if you want me to loan you the book.

I ran into Sarah at the farmers market this morning and she told me about the hiking trail she did last weekend near the lake. She said it was about four miles round trip with some nice shaded sections and a small waterfall at the turnaround point. I’ve been meaning to get out more on weekends so I might try that one soon. She also mentioned that her brother just got back from a trip to the southwest and brought back some interesting rock samples. I didn’t even know that was a thing people collected but apparently there’s a whole community of amateur geologists who trade specimens online. It sounded kind of fun honestly a bit like a treasure hunt. I’ve been looking for a new low-key hobby that doesn’t involve screens all day so maybe I’ll look into it. The weather has been perfect for being outside lately not too hot and the bugs aren’t bad yet. I’m hoping it stays that way for a few more weeks at least. Anyway I thought you’d get a kick out of that trail recommendation if you’re also looking for something new to try. Let me know if you end up going.

I also started reading a novel set in a small coastal town and the descriptions of the boardwalk and the old pier are making me want to plan a trip somewhere with a real ocean view. Nothing too far maybe just a long weekend. I’ll keep you posted if I settle on anything specific.
