Honestly, I think the hike we did last Saturday was exactly what I needed. We started around 7am and the trail was still damp from the overnight rain. The air smelled like pine and wet stone. I forgot how good it feels to be out that early. We stopped at the overlook around mile 3 and just sat there for twenty minutes watching the fog lift off the valley. I brought a thermos of coffee and we passed it back and forth. My legs are still a little sore but in that satisfying way where you know you actually did something. My friend kept pointing out different bird calls and I tried to remember them but I probably won't. By the time we got back down it was almost noon and we grabbed lunch at that little deli near the trailhead. I had a turkey and avocado sandwich and it hit the spot. I think I want to make this a regular thing. Maybe every other weekend if we can coordinate schedules. 1lDmNBl8SYZz1O I already looked up a few longer trails for next month. Nothing too crazy but enough to push a little further. Let me know if you'd want to join next time.

Oh I finally listened to that podcast you mentioned. The one about urban planning and how cities design public spaces. It took me a couple of days to get through it because I kept pausing to think about what they were saying. The part about how small plazas and corner benches actually change the way people interact with a neighborhood really stuck with me. I started noticing it when I walked to the coffee shop yesterday. There is a little triangle park near my apartment that I always walk past and I sat there for a few minutes and realized it actually does feel different from the empty stretches of sidewalk. The host interviewed a landscape architect who talked about how even a single tree planted in the right spot can shift foot traffic patterns. I had never thought about any of that before. It made me want to go explore some of the older parts of town I usually skip. I also liked the episode about market design and how vendors decide where to set up. The sound design was really good too lots of ambient street recordings mixed in. Anyway thanks for the recommendation. If you have another one send it over I am in a listening mood lately.
