Yes, I think the best approach is to add the broth slowly and stir frequently. I tried it last weekend with a mushroom risotto and the texture came out really nice. The key is letting each addition of broth absorb before adding the next. I also added fresh thyme near the end and that worked well. If you want to try it, plan for about 45 minutes of mostly hands-on time. The arborio rice needs that slow process to release the starches properly. Let me know if you want me to send over the measurements I used. I found that using a good quality vegetable broth made a difference too. The mushrooms I used were cremini and shiitake, which gave a nice depth of flavor. I think next time I might try adding a bit of lemon zest at the end for brightness.

I finished that book you recommended and I agree it gets better after the first few chapters. The coastal setting really drew me in and the descriptions were quite vivid. I can see why you thought I would like it. I finished it last night and found the ending stayed with me. I was wondering if the author has written anything else with a similar tone. If you know of any other titles by them I would be interested in checking those out too. Thanks again for the suggestion. I also started looking into the background of the setting and learned a bit about the region which added another layer to the story.
