I finally got around to reorganizing the pantry this weekend and it turned into a much bigger project than I expected. What I thought would be a quick hour-long task ended up taking the better part of Saturday afternoon. I found three bags of dried beans that had been sitting there since who knows when and a bottle of olive oil that was definitely past its prime. The upside is that now I can actually see everything I have so meals should be easier to plan for a while. I also labeled all the containers which feels oddly satisfying. The whole process made me think about how we accumulate things without really noticing. I might try to keep up with it better going forward but we will see how long that lasts. My neighbor stopped by mid-project and ended up helping for a bit which made the work go faster. We talked about trying a new recipe together soon using some of the ingredients I rediscovered. It is funny how a simple task can turn into something much more rewarding than you planned.

I think the best part of the hike was reaching the clearing just before sunset. The way the light filtered through the trees was something else entirely. We had been walking for about three hours at that point and my legs were definitely feeling it but the view made it all worth it. There was a small stream running along the edge of the meadow and we stopped there to refill our water bottles and just sit for a while. It is rare to find a place that quiet around here. PNGbHkIhOxyHeH The trail we took was one I had not tried before and I am glad we did because the terrain was varied enough to keep it interesting without being too difficult. The wildflowers were in full bloom which added color to the whole scene. I am already thinking about going back next month maybe with a small group this time. A few friends asked about the route so I shared the map with them and we are planning a repeat trip soon. It is nice to have something to look forward to that does not involve sitting at a desk.
