Yeah, I finally got around to helping my neighbor with that raised garden bed they have been talking about all spring. We ended up using some old cedar fence boards that were just sitting in their garage, and honestly they worked perfectly once we cut them down to size. The soil mix was the tricky part — we did a blend of compost vermiculite and peat moss which felt like way too much math for a Saturday morning. But the beds look great now and they have already planted tomatoes and bell peppers. I am kind of jealous actually. I might try something similar next year though I will probably start smaller. Maybe just a couple of herb pots on the porch to begin with. OYIvLdpDq17 It is amazing how much better fresh oregano tastes compared to the dried stuff from a jar. Anyway if you are thinking about doing something similar I would say just go for it. The prep work is tedious but seeing those first green shoots pop up makes it all worth it. I also added a small drip irrigation system on a timer so they do not have to worry about watering every day. The whole project took two weekends but the payoff is already starting to show.

I have been experimenting with a new sourdough starter recipe this week and it has been quite the journey. Day one was pretty straightforward just flour and water mixed together. Day two nothing much happened. Day three I started seeing some bubbles and got excited. By day five it was doubling in size within a few hours of feeding which felt like a real victory. The first loaf I baked was a bit dense but the second one had a much better crumb structure. I think the key was letting it bulk ferment a little longer than the recipe suggested. My kitchen counter is now permanently covered in flour dust and I have named my starter "Breadward" which my family thinks is ridiculous. But honestly there is something really satisfying about creating bread from basically just flour water and time. It has become a calming ritual in the mornings. I also started keeping a feeding log to track hydration ratios and room temperature changes. Highly recommend giving it a try if you have the patience for a slow rewarding process.
