Yeah, I spent most of the afternoon working on that bookshelf project we talked about. After measuring the alcove again I realized I needed to adjust the shelf heights to accommodate the larger art books I have. I ended up marking new bracket positions and redrilling a few holes which set me back a bit. The wood filler I used on the old holes needs to dry overnight so I will sand it down tomorrow and then apply a fresh coat of paint. The color I picked is a warm neutral that should blend well with the wall. I think once it is finished the whole corner will look much more organized and intentional. I also found a small lamp at the secondhand store that fits perfectly on the top shelf. It gives off a soft warm light that makes the space feel cozy. I still need to decide how to arrange the books maybe by color or by height. I have not decided yet but I will figure it out once the shelves are fully dry and ready.

Let me know if you want to come by and see it once I have everything in place. I could use a second opinion on the layout before I commit to it.

I looked into that question you had about the best way to clean cast iron pans. The method that works well for me is to scrub the pan with a stiff brush and a small amount of warm water while the pan is still slightly warm but not hot. I avoid using soap because it can strip the seasoning. After rinsing I dry it thoroughly with a cloth and then place it on the stove over low heat for a minute or two to make sure all the moisture is gone. Then I apply a very thin layer of vegetable oil with a paper towel and buff it in until the surface looks glossy. I store the pan in a dry place with a paper towel inside the cooking surface to absorb any leftover moisture. This routine keeps the seasoning strong and prevents rust from forming. I learned this approach from a friend who has been cooking with cast iron for years and it has worked well for me ever since I started following it. If the pan ever develops a sticky or dull spot I just repeat the oiling process a few times and it comes back.
