Thanks for asking about the garden plans. Yes I think we should go ahead with the raised bed approach along the south side of the yard. The soil there has good drainage and gets plenty of afternoon sun. We can build three beds each about four feet by eight feet using cedar planks which should last several years without treatment. For the layout I was thinking tomatoes and basil in the first bed peppers and eggplants in the second and then leafy greens and root vegetables in the third. We can start seedlings indoors about six weeks before the last frost date. I already have some seed packets saved from last season and will pick up a few more varieties this weekend. The drip irrigation kit I mentioned earlier should be simple to install along the base of each bed. Let me know if you want to adjust the dimensions or crop selection before I start building frames.

Regarding your question about the new kitchen layout I think the L-shaped configuration with a center island will work well in that space. The existing plumbing on the north wall makes it practical to put the sink and dishwasher there leaving the east wall for the range and ventilation. For the island I am considering a butcher block top that can double as a prep area and casual seating spot with two stools on the outer side. The flooring should be engineered hardwood or a high quality luxury vinyl plank that can handle foot traffic and spills. Cabinetry in a light off white with brushed nickel pulls would keep the room feeling open. Under cabinet lighting is a good addition especially for evening cooking. I am meeting with the contractor on Friday to finalize measurements and material selections. Let me know if you have other ideas for the pantry configuration.
