We looked at the trail conditions for this weekend and I think the Pine Ridge loop is the smartest pick. The elevation gain is steady but not punishing and the views from the overlook should be worth the hike. I spoke with a ranger yesterday who said the path is mostly dry with only a few muddy spots near the creek crossings. We should bring poles if you have them because there are some rocky sections closer to the summit. I plan to pack sandwiches and plenty of water since there are no reliable streams past the midpoint. The weather forecast shows partly cloudy skies and a high near 72 degrees which is about as good as we could ask for. If we leave by 6am we can beat the heaviest crowds and have the summit mostly to ourselves. I mapped it out and the full loop is about 6.2 miles with around 1400 feet of elevation gain. That should take us roughly 3.5 to 4 hours with a few short breaks. Let me know if that pace works for you or if you want to adjust anything before we firm up the plan.

I tried the new pasta place on Elm Street last night and the homemade linguine was excellent. The sauce had a nice balance of garlic and basil without being too heavy. I think we could replicate something similar for the dinner next week if we use fresh tomatoes instead of canned. I usually add a small pinch of sugar to cut the acidity. For the protein I would go with shrimp because it cooks fast and pairs well with a lemon butter sauce. The market on Fourth has decent seafood if you go early in the morning. We could serve it with a simple arugula salad and some crusty bread from the bakery on Main. Let me know if you have a preferred wine pairing because I was thinking a Pinot Grigio would work well. I have an extra baking dish if you need one and the whole meal should take about an hour to prep and cook. I can handle the pasta and sauce if you want to bring the salad and bread. We should aim for around 6pm so everything stays hot.
