Thanks for reaching out about the planting schedule. I think we should aim for the second weekend in April, given how late the frost has been lingering the past couple of years. The soil in the raised beds along the south fence should be ready by then if we turn it over and add compost a few weeks prior. Tomatoes and peppers will need to be started indoors about six weeks before that, so that puts us in early March for seed starting. I still have the grow lights from last season, and they worked well for the seedlings. We could use the shed for staging if we clear out some of the old pots and trays. Let me know if you want to coordinate on soil amendments, because I can pick up a few bags of compost from the landscape supply place on my way home next week. I think we should also consider adding a row of sunflowers along the back edge to attract more pollinators this year. The variety we used two seasons ago did well and reseeded lightly, so we might get some volunteers.

I looked at the trail maps you sent and the ridge route looks manageable for a full day hike if we start early. The forecast shows partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low seventies, which should be comfortable for the ascent. We will need to pack plenty of water because there are no reliable streams along the upper portion of the trail. I have a couple of hydration packs we can use, and I will bring along some trail mix and sandwiches for lunch at the summit overlook. The parking area at the trailhead tends to fill up by eight in the morning on weekends, so I suggest we meet at your place by six fifteen to carpool and get a spot. Let me know if you want to invite anyone else from the group, because I think four or five people would be ideal for this trail. I will also bring a basic first aid kit and a spare compass just to be safe. We should also check if any trail permits are required for that section, because sometimes the ranger station has day-use passes.
