Hi there, thanks for asking about the trail conditions on the Blue Ridge loop. I hiked it last Saturday and it was in decent shape overall. The lower section near the creek had some muddy patches from the rain earlier in the week, but nothing too deep. Once you get past the old stone bridge, the path dries out and becomes mostly packed dirt with scattered rocks. The elevation gain is steady but not punishing, and the views from the lookout point are worth the effort. I’d recommend starting early to avoid the midday heat and bringing plenty of water since there aren’t many shaded benches along the way. The wildflowers are still blooming in patches near the meadow, so keep an eye out for that. I think you and your group will enjoy the route. Let me know if you want directions to the alternate parking lot that’s closer to the trailhead.

I wanted to follow up on your question about the sourdough starter I’ve been maintaining. It took about three weeks to get it really active and consistent. I use a mix of whole wheat and all-purpose flour, feeding it once a day at room temperature. The key for me was keeping it at a stable temperature around 72 degrees, especially during the colder months. I discard half before each feeding and keep the hydration at about 100 percent. The starter gives a nice mild tang after about 8 to 10 hours of fermentation, and the loaves have been coming out with a good crumb and a crisp crust. I also started experimenting with adding a small amount of rye flour to the feedings, which seemed to boost the activity. Let me know if you want tips on shaping or baking schedules.
