Yes I think the main reason the garden project worked so well last season w=
as the soil preparation. We mixed in about three inches of aged compost and=
turned it under a full two weeks before anything went in the ground. That =
gave the microorganisms time to settle in. I also added a light dusting of =
azomite for trace minerals. For the tomatoes we used a simple fish emulsion=
every two weeks and they responded beautifully. If you want to try somethi=
ng similar I would recommend starting with a soil test first just to see wh=
ere your pH and nutrient levels sit. Most local extension offices do them f=
or a small fee. The results will tell you exactly what amendments to add ra=
ther than guessing. I think the key is not to overcomplicate things. Good s=
oil healthy transplants and consistent watering will take you most of the w=
ay there.

We ended up going with the blue paint for the living room after all. It is =
called Stonewash and it reads more like a soft denim than anything too bold=
. I was worried it would feel cold but once we got it on the walls and the =
afternoon light came through it actually warmed up nicely. The trim is stay=
ing a clean white which helps define the edges. We still need to decide on =
curtain rods but I think a brushed nickel finish would tie in with the ligh=
t fixtures. The whole process took longer than expected mostly because of t=
he prep work. Sanding and patching always eats up more time than the painti=
ng itself. If you decide to do a similar project I would block out a full w=
eekend just for the prep alone. Also we used a paint sprayer for the first =
time and it made a huge difference in the finish. Much smoother than roller=
s.
