When you asked about the best way to season a cast iron skillet, I wanted t=
o share what has worked for me over the years. I start by scrubbing the pan=
with hot water and a stiff brush, just to get any residue off. Then I dry =
it completely over low heat on the stove. Once it is warm, I apply a very t=
hin layer of vegetable oil all over the surface, inside and out, using a pa=
per towel. I place it upside down in the oven at 375 degrees with a baking =
sheet on the rack below to catch any drips. I let it bake for about an hour=
, then turn off the heat and let it cool in the oven. I repeat this process=
maybe two or three times and the seasoning builds up nicely. It really doe=
s get better each time you use it and clean it properly. I have found that =
avoiding soap most of the time helps maintain the seasoning, but a little m=
ild soap is okay if needed. Just make sure to dry it thoroughly and apply a=
tiny bit of oil after each wash. It becomes so nonstick after a while that=
you can cook eggs without any issues.

You asked about the timeline for the community garden plots this year. I ch=
ecked with the coordinator and here is what I found out. The plots will be =
available for assignment starting the second week of April. They are asking=
everyone to submit their preferences by the end of March so they can plan =
the layout. There are about thirty plots this year, which is a few more tha=
n last year. They added two raised beds near the shed for folks who have tr=
ouble bending down. I signed up for plot number seven again, the one near t=
he water spigot. If you want a specific plot, it is best to mention it when=
you submit your form. They usually accommodate requests if they can. The s=
oil testing clinic is scheduled for the first Saturday in April, and they w=
ill have compost available for purchase at a reasonable price. I can send y=
ou the link to the registration page if you need it. Let me know if you wan=
t to coordinate what we plant this year because I was thinking of doing tom=
atoes and peppers again, but I might try some squash as well.
